Home Depot Actually Owns the Land Now: Home Depot bought 13.52 acres at Lexington Exchange in California for its first Southern Maryland store. While we still don’t have an exact open date, at least we are finally past the rumor stage.

Two St. Mary’s College Alumni Are World Champions: Alex Curtiss ’16 and Madison Bashaw ’24 helped USA 1 win the 2026 World Sailing Open Team Racing Championship in Stockholm. Twelve national teams competed in identical 26-foot keelboats. Not bad for a small waterfront college.

Snow Hill Now Rents Kayaks and Paddleboards: Snow Hill now has a self-service rental kiosk with three solo kayaks, two tandem kayaks, and three stand-up paddleboards. Paddles and life jackets are included, and everything is first come, first served.

Carver’s Boys & Girls Club Has an Opening Date: The new club at Carver Recreation Center opens September 15 with a learning center, STEM lab, game room, sports, workforce programs, and after-school activities. It is expected to serve more than 100 local kids.

The County Fair Finally Has Online Registration: If you enter anything in the St. Mary’s County Fair, you can finally register online instead of dealing with the paper forms. Registration is open through September 13, and entry tags will be available at the fairgrounds September 23.

Youth Roller Hockey Is Coming to Leonard Hall: Kids ages 3–13 can learn the basics before working up to more advanced instruction. The eight-week, nonchecking program starts September 16, and registration closes September 10.

School Starts Wednesday: Most St. Mary’s County Public Schools students head back August 26; Chesapeake Charter School started August 11. Parents can use the back-to-school portal and Home Access Center for schedules, bus stops, forms, supply lists, and meal-benefit applications.

Glass Blowing DIY Class | 2:30–6:30 PM at Port of Leonardtown Winery. Make a glass, vase, pumpkin, flower, or spoon rest during McFadden Glass’s final winery class of the year. Advance booking is required.

Under the Night Stars in Puerto Rico | 7–10 PM at El Coqui, Callaway. Start with a bachata lesson, then stay for salsa, bachata, and social dancing with DJ Spinnit.

LEXBA Market Days | 9 AM–noon at Pax River Village Center, Lexington Park. Local entrepreneurs and small businesses set up along Great Mills Road. The market runs rain or shine.

Lore Oyster House | 10 AM–noon in Solomons. Tour the restored 1934 seafood-packing house and learn how Southern Maryland oysters were processed and shipped. Hours are tides and weather permitting.

159th Annual Jousting Tournament and Bazaar | Bazaar at 10 AM; jousting at noon at Christ Church, Port Republic. Mounted ring jousting joins baked goods, children’s activities, organ recitals, treasures, and a traditional church supper.

Caribbean Food, Wine & Jazz Festival | 1–8 PM at The Oxygen Estate, Mechanicsville. The first-year festival features Caribbean food, Port of Leonardtown wines, family entertainment, and live music from One Night Stand. Tickets are required.

Southern Maryland Cars & Coffee | 8–11 AM at Laurel Glen Shopping Center, California. Classics, imports, performance cars, and customs gather for a relaxed Sunday meet. No burnouts or unnecessary revving, which apparently still needs saying.

Step Into the Past: The Louis Goldstein Office | 11 AM at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum, St. Leonard. Tour a recreation of the Calvert County native’s Annapolis office through artifacts and Maryland history.

Pokémon TCG Worlds Celebration Tournament | 11 AM at Swords & Spoons, California. Registered players compete in Swiss-format rounds, with promotional cards and prizes across multiple age divisions.

Beyond the Displays: Artifact Stories | 1:30–2:30 PM at Calvert Marine Museum, Solomons. A museum educator shares the stories behind selected artifacts, World War II-era Solomons, and details hidden in the murals.
