School-zone cameras start warning drivers Friday. The county’s six camera zones will issue warnings through September 6, then citations begin September 7 for vehicles caught 12 mph or more over the limit. They run Monday through Friday, 6 AM–8 PM, year-round.

FDR Boulevard’s last stretch toward Gate 1 is supposed to be wrapping up now. Phase 3B is the final mile from Buck Hewitt Road to Pegg Road, near the Pax River main gate, and the county’s published schedule puts completion in summer 2026. No ribbon-cutting date has been announced, but that is the piece meant to finally connect the road to Pegg and take some pressure off Route 235.

Leonardtown’s waterfront plan is a whole lot more than a new bench at the Wharf. The town’s adopted 2025 plan calls for The Overlook, a 1,200–1,500-person amphitheater, alongside the Icehouse food hall, raised boardwalk, splash pad, historic carousel, green space, expanded permeable parking, and trails through Tudor Hall Farm.

The county broke ground on a nearly $19 million Sheriff’s Office support facility. The new Hollywood Road building, behind the Board of Elections office, is planned for evidence storage, crime-lab work, fleet operations, an armory, and the specialized gear that currently lives in too many places. Construction is expected to take about 18 months, so this is the beginning of a big back-of-house upgrade, not a new front-door police station tomorrow.
