🙌 Community Win: The Pretzel King of Leonardtown
One of the cooler things we saw this weekend.
A local kid named Cam set up outside Social Coffeehouse in Leonardtown selling hot pretzels under his new venture, Mesa’s Pretzels. He sold out. Not just a few here and there. Completely sold out his opening weekend.
Turns out Cam is also the grandson of former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan. But honestly, the best part isn’t who he’s related to.
It’s that he showed up, put in the work, and people showed up right back.
That’s St. Mary’s. 🥨
🏡 Around the County
Easter Monday Is a School Day: Superintendent Dr. Scott Smith confirmed that April 6 is now a full make-up day for winter weather closures. If your family was planning to treat Monday as a bonus holiday, that plan has been revised for you.
YMCA Is Starting to Look Like a YMCA: If you’ve driven on Great Mills Road lately, the YMCA no longer looks like a hole in the ground. The steel is up, the building has real shape, and a 2026 opening is starting to feel more believable.
⭐ The Top Pick
Spring Vendor Market with Easter Bunny & Egg Scatter Saturday, April 4 | 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM | Lyon Family Farms, Mechanicsville
This is the one that’s likely to draw most of the families out this weekend.
Lyon Family Farms opens up the whole property for Easter Bunny photos, a kids’ egg scatter, local vendors, food trucks, and U-pick tulips all running at the same time. Kids can drift between the egg scatter and bunny photos while the adults settle in around the vendor stalls and food trucks.
Tickets are required, so check their Facebook before loading up the car. 🐣
🌿 The Insider's Spotlight: SPICE Studio
There are businesses you walk past for years before you actually go in. For a lot of people in Leonardtown, SPICE is that place.
Nicole started this out of her basement in 2012. By 2017 it had moved to Washington Street. By 2021 it had already outgrown that space too. That kind of growth doesn't happen by accident.
The Vibe: Three studio rooms right in the heart of Leonardtown Square, plus a separate area for massage. Clean, bright, and welcoming in a way that makes it easy to walk in even if you have never done a fitness class in your life.
Why It's Good: The class menu covers a lot of ground. Barre, Pilates, HIIT, yoga, TRX, strength, cardio, personal training, massage, and reformer Pilates all under one roof. You can show up for a hard session or a slower one depending on how sore you are. Every class offers modifications, so fitness level isn't a barrier to getting started.
The Play: First-timers get a BOGO this week. Buy one drop-in class, get one free. Mention St. Mary's Insider when you book to claim it. Valid through Tuesday, April 8.
👨👩👧 Family & Community
Fossil Egg Hunt: Sat, April 4 | 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Calvert Marine Museum, Solomons - Kids hunt for hidden eggs containing real fossils and take home a collection container and ID guide. Pre-registration is required. Today is your last chance! Call ahead before making the drive. 🦦
Spring Scavenger Hunt: Sat, April 4 | 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM | St. Mary’s City - Kids follow clues across the grounds during site hours. No set start time. Just show up and move at your own pace. The open space keeps it from feeling crowded.
Swords & Spoons Pokémon Easter Egg Hunt: Sun, April 5 | 1:00 PM | California - A Pokémon-themed twist on the usual egg hunt. Eggs are filled with candy and mini Pokémon figures, with a few golden eggs mixed in for prizes. Split by age group to stay organized.
🍷 Date Night
Craft Beer & Oyster Night: Fri, April 3 | 2:00pm - 7:00 PM | Everyday Saint Brewhouse | Leonardtown - Oysters and local craft beer in a restored 1840s building on Washington Street. Seating fills early and the energy builds from there. Good stop before or after the First Friday loop. 🦪
Easter Cookie Decorating Class: Thu, April 2 | 6:00 PM | Port of Leonardtown Winery - Smaller group, slower pace, and a glass of wine included. You’ll decorate cookies step-by-step with all supplies provided, so no experience needed.
Il Piccolo Morso: Fri–Sat | Leonardtown - If you want something quieter this weekend, this is one of the better spots to slow things down. Italian kitchen in a small space where you actually sit and talk instead of rushing through dinner. Reservations recommended.
🎶 Night Out
First Friday Drum Circle: Fri, April 3 | 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM | St. Mary’s County Arts Council | Leonardtown - This runs alongside First Friday but has a completely different feel. Open drum circle where people can jump in or just hang back and watch. Casual, a little chaotic in a good way, and easy to stop at for 10 minutes or stay the full hour.
Little Ozzy: A Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne: Fri, April 3 | 8:00 PM | The Rex Theatre, Leonardtown | 21+ One of the more convincing Ozzy tributes on the circuit. If the evening starts at First Friday and ends here, that is a complete night out without leaving Leonardtown.
Annmarie After Hours: Fri, April 3 | 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM | Solomons - Art, music, and food. A good reason to cross the bridge on a Friday evening.
Brudergarten Easter Party: Sat, April 4 | 3:00 PM onward | Leonardtown - All ages afternoon with a DJ and games, then flips to 21+ later in the night. Easy social ending to a Saturday spent at the farms.
🔎Hidden Gem: Piney Point Lighthouse Museum
Most people in the county have driven past this more times than they can count and never actually turned in.
The Experience: A historic lighthouse right on the Potomac with open grounds, waterfront views, and the kind of quiet that is hard to find on a spring weekend when everything else has a crowd. Walk the grounds, look at the water, and let the afternoon slow down.
The Catch: It’s a passive experience. No rides, no vendors, no production. That is exactly the point. If you want to get outside and still hear yourself think, this is the one.
